Duke Energy HVAC rebates in Casselberry, Florida
Duke Energy publishes up to $1,000 for replacing electric strip heat with a qualifying heat pump, $500 for replacing a heat pump and $300 for replacing an air conditioner. Every one of them requires a free Home Energy Check completed within the previous 24 months and BEFORE installation.
Book the free Duke Energy Home Energy Check before you replace anything.
Duke Energy requires a free Home Energy Check completed within the previous 24 months to qualify for any Home Energy Improvement rebate. Replace the system first and apply afterwards and the application is denied — there is no retroactive path back.
It is a no-cost visit and it is the single most common way a Casselberry homeowner loses a four-figure rebate. If you are within a year of replacing, book it now, before you call anyone for a quote. Duke’s rebate line is 800.254.8535.

Duke publishes these tiers. We could not find a Florida-scoped page that states them, so we say “Duke publishes” rather than “Duke Energy Florida pays.”
The amounts above come from Duke Energy’s Home Energy Improvement HVAC replacement page, which does not scope itself to a single state — its body references the Carolinas, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Florida. The Florida application portal at dukeenergyrebates.com does confirm that the programme and the Home Energy Check prerequisite apply to Duke Energy Florida.

Casselberry is a strip-heat city, and that is where the money is
The top tier is written for Casselberry. Duke’s largest published HVAC rebate is for replacing electric strip heat with a heat pump — and straight-cool plus electric resistance strip heat is the standard build in this city’s 1970s and 80s housing.
57.1% of Casselberry’s 8,563 improved residential parcels were built between 1970 and 1989, the third-highest share of the seven Seminole County cities. Winter here is mild — a January average high of 71°F — so builders of that era rarely paid for a heat pump when a strip heater in the air handler would do. Four decades later the equipment has been replaced several times, but a straight-cool condenser is usually replaced with another straight-cool condenser, and the strip heat stays.
| City | Residential parcels | Median year built | Built 1970–89 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altamonte Springs | 13,253 | 1981 | 72.4% |
| Longwood | 4,962 | 1979 | 66.5% |
| Casselberry | 8,563 | 1977 | 57.1% |
| Winter Springs | 13,297 | 1988 | 51.2% |
| Lake Mary | 5,343 | 1996 | 26.9% |
| Oviedo | 12,263 | 1995 | 25.0% |
| Sanford | 17,391 | 1995 | 24.8% |
How to check yours in thirty seconds: if the breaker panel has a large double-pole breaker (often 60A) feeding the indoor air handler as well as the outdoor unit’s breaker, and the thermostat has an “emergency heat” or “aux heat” setting that is the only heat, you are almost certainly on strip heat. What converting actually changes.

How to actually get the money
- Book the free Home Energy Check. Before anything else. It must have been completed within the previous 24 months, and it must come before the installation.
- Get quotes with the SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings named. The rebate tiers are gated on the rating of the matched system, not the condenser alone.
- Confirm the current amount with Duke. 800.254.8535 for rebate questions; 877.364.9003 for application support, Monday to Friday 8–5; eeneedrequest@duke-energy.com by email.
- Use a licensed, insured air conditioning contractor. Duke requires it, and so does the permit desk.
- Apply through the Florida portal at dukeenergyrebates.com after the work is complete and inspected.
Casselberry’s Neighborhood Improvement Grant does not pay for an air conditioner.
The city runs a Neighborhood Improvement Grant Program, established by the City Commission in 2013, that reimburses 50% of a project up to $2,500 and requires three quotes including one from a business based in Casselberry. It is a good programme and homeowners hear about it.
It is also exterior beautification only. The city’s published purpose is enhancing the exterior appearance of residential areas, the scoring questions ask how the project improves appearance and property value, and HVAC replacement is not listed among eligible improvements. Anyone who tells you this grant will offset a changeout is guessing. If you want it in writing, ask the city’s planning department directly.
