AC compressor replacement cost in Casselberry, Florida
Replacing an AC compressor runs about $1,000 to $3,000 and up, with a cross-check range of $800 to $2,300 and most homeowners near $1,200 plus labour. Against a full replacement at $5,800 to $12,500, a compressor on a system past twelve years is usually the wrong spend.
These are researched market ranges, not our prices and not a quote.
The dollar figures below come from published third-party cost guides — named and linked at the foot of the page — and from the City of Casselberry’s own published permit fee. They are here so you can tell whether a quote you have been handed is in the ordinary range for this work. They are not an offer, and no two houses in Casselberry cost the same to do.
What a compressor costs in Casselberry
| Job | Researched range | What drives it |

| Full system replacement, for comparison | $5,800–$12,500 | Florida statewide guide. This is the comparison that matters. |
Four questions before you authorise one
A compressor replacement is the one repair where the arithmetic usually says stop. Work through it in this order:
- Is it under warranty? Under s. 559.957, Fla. Stat. the full length of a manufacturer’s HVAC warranty runs from the date of installation when the system was installed by a Chapter 489 licensed contractor, and a warranty may not be conditioned on returning a product registration card. If someone tells you your warranty is void because nobody registered the unit, that is not the law in Florida. A warranty compressor still costs labour and refrigerant — but not $2,000.
- How old is the rest of the system? A new compressor in a fifteen-year-old condenser is a new engine in a car with a rusted body. The coil, the fan motor, the contactor and the lineset are all the same age.
- What refrigerant is in it? If it is R-410A, the refrigerant is being phased down. Read what the EPA rule actually says before spending $2,500 on a system that is on the wrong side of it.
- What would you forfeit by repairing? If the house still has electric strip heat — and in the 1970s and 80s stock that is over half this city, it usually does — replacing with a qualifying heat pump is worth up to $1,000 from Duke Energy. A $2,400 compressor repair on a strip-heat house can be a $3,400 decision once the forfeited rebate is counted.
Before you compare any number on this page, read the rebate order of operations. Duke Energy requires a free Home Energy Check completed within the previous 24 months before the equipment is installed. Replace first and apply afterwards and the claim is denied — on a strip-heat house, which is most of Casselberry’s 1970s and 80s stock, that is up to $1,000 thrown away.
Repair versus changeout, at the permit desk
Inside city limits the permit is a flat $200.00. Not a percentage. Not a guess.
The City of Casselberry publishes one flat fee for HVAC, grouped with Electric / Plumbing / Gas: $200.00. It does not scale with the contract, so it is the same $200 on a $6,500 changeout as on a $14,000 one. If a Casselberry-city quote shows a permit allowance of $450 “to cover permitting,” ask what the other $250 is.
If your address is in Deer Run or Fern Park (32730), this fee does not apply to you — those are unincorporated Seminole County and permit through the county Building Division in Sanford. Which desk is mine?
Worth knowing: a like-for-like compressor repair is not the same regulatory event as a changeout. A full changeout — condenser, air handler or both — requires a mechanical permit in both the city and the county, and there is no dollar threshold that removes that requirement. Why the $7,500 exemption you may have read about does not help you.
