AC repair cost in Casselberry, Florida
AC repairs run about $100 to $1,000 in total, with minor repairs $100-$300 and common central-AC faults $150-$650. A diagnostic visit is $75-$150 and is usually credited toward the work. Capacitors run $150-$400, drain line clearing $80-$250, compressors $1,000-$3,000 and up.
These are researched market ranges, not our prices and not a quote.
The dollar figures below come from published third-party cost guides — named and linked at the foot of the page — and from the City of Casselberry’s own published permit fee. They are here so you can tell whether a quote you have been handed is in the ordinary range for this work. They are not an offer, and no two houses in Casselberry cost the same to do.
What AC repairs cost in Casselberry
| Job | Researched range | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic / service call | $75–$150 | Commonly credited toward the repair. Nights, weekends and holidays cost more. |
| Capacitor replacement | $150–$400 | The part itself is rarely over $45. You are paying for a licensed tech, the truck and the diagnosis. |
| Contactor or relay | $100–$450 | Pitted contacts are a wear item on a condenser that has been cycling for eight or nine months a year. |
| Drain line clearing | $80–$250 | The routine Central Florida humidity-season call. A blocked line trips the float switch and the system stops. |
| Thermostat repair or replacement | $100–$500 | Wide because it spans a $20 mechanical stat and a communicating control that has to be matched to the equipment. |
| Blower or condenser fan motor | $300–$800 | ECM motors sit at the top of the band; a PSC motor in a 1980s air handler sits at the bottom. |
| Refrigerant leak repair | $200–$1,500+ | Finding the leak is most of the cost. On an R-410A system, weigh the repair against the refrigerant phase-down. |
| Evaporator coil | $700–$2,500+ | On a system past twelve years this is usually the point where replacement gets costed properly. |
| Condenser coil | $1,000–$2,700+ | Rarely worth doing alone on old equipment. |
| Compressor replacement | $1,000–$3,000+ | The decision point. See the compressor page before authorising one. |
| All AC repairs, overall band | $100–$1,000 | Minor repairs $100–$300; common central-AC faults $150–$650. |
This Old House air conditioner repair cost guide (updated 16 March 2026), with Angi 2026 figures used as a cross-check where they were available. Angi returns HTTP 403 to automated fetch, so those figures came from search summaries and are the weaker of the two sources.
The repairs this housing stock actually generates
Which of those you are likely to be quoted depends almost entirely on how old the house is, and Casselberry is old: the median improved residential parcel was built in 1977 and 57.1% of the city was built between 1970 and 1989.
| Your house was built | Share of city | What a Casselberry house of that vintage usually still has | What to check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before 1970 | 19.9% | Central air was frequently retrofitted rather than designed in. Duct runs were added to a house that was not planned around them, so returns are undersized and the supply layout is whatever fitted the attic. | Return air path and total external static pressure, before anything else. Equipment cannot fix a duct system it cannot breathe through. |
| 1970 – 1989 | 57.1% | Concrete-block ranch, straight-cool condenser with electric resistance strip heat in the air handler. Winter here is mild enough that builders rarely paid for a heat pump. The original equipment is four decades gone; the duct trunk in the attic very often is not. | Whether the house is still on strip heat. That single answer decides the size of the Duke Energy rebate and most of the operating-cost argument. |
| 1990 – 1999 | 6.2% | The smallest band in the city — Casselberry did very little building in the nineties. Heat pumps are common by this point and duct work is usually inside conditioned or semi-conditioned space. | Coil and lineset condition. These houses are typically on their second system, which is now itself at replacement age. |
| 2000 and later | 16.8% | Built to the post-2001 Florida Building Code: heat pump, interior air handler, tested duct system. Legacy Park, Grayson Square, Lost Lake Estates and the Lake Howell communities sit here. | Nothing structural. This is straight replacement-cycle work — and on the 2004-2007 houses, first-generation equipment is now at end of life. |
When a repair stops being the cheap option
There is a point where repair money stops being worth spending, and it is not a fixed dollar figure. The three things that move it:
- Age against the Florida duty cycle. A cooling season that runs March to November is not the same wear as a four-month northern season. A twelve-year-old system here has done the work of a much older one somewhere else.
- Refrigerant. An R-410A system can still be legally repaired and recharged, but R-410A is being phased down under the EPA Technology Transitions rule. On an older system that shifts the maths toward replacement sooner than it used to. What the phase-down actually says.
- The rebate you would forfeit. If the house is on electric strip heat, replacing rather than repairing is worth up to $1,000 from Duke Energy — but only if the free Home Energy Check happened first.
Before you compare any number on this page, read the rebate order of operations. Duke Energy requires a free Home Energy Check completed within the previous 24 months before the equipment is installed. Replace first and apply afterwards and the claim is denied — on a strip-heat house, which is most of Casselberry’s 1970s and 80s stock, that is up to $1,000 thrown away.
Inside city limits the permit is a flat $200.00. Not a percentage. Not a guess.
The City of Casselberry publishes one flat fee for HVAC, grouped with Electric / Plumbing / Gas: $200.00. It does not scale with the contract, so it is the same $200 on a $6,500 changeout as on a $14,000 one. If a Casselberry-city quote shows a permit allowance of $450 “to cover permitting,” ask what the other $250 is.
If your address is in Deer Run or Fern Park (32730), this fee does not apply to you — those are unincorporated Seminole County and permit through the county Building Division in Sanford. Which desk is mine?
Something is broken now?
Tell us the symptom and the build year of the house. Most Casselberry faults narrow to two or three candidates before anyone opens a panel.
